This study is a retrospective cohort analysis examining changes in cardiometabolic parameters among patients with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis who were newly treated with apremilast. The objective is to describe the effects of apremilast on body mass index (BMI), weight, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), and lipid levels over a 12-month period, stratified by prediabetes/diabetes and obesity status. The study analyzed electronic medical records of 8487 patients, revealing that 24% had diabetes and 27% were classified as obese. Results indicated significant reductions in BMI and weight at both 6 and 12 months, with the most substantial improvements observed in individuals with diabetes and obesity. Additionally, reductions in HbA1c were noted in patients without diabetes and those with severe obesity. The findings suggest that apremilast may offer cardiometabolic benefits, particularly for patients facing significant comorbidities related to obesity and diabetes.
