University of Bristol Digital Learning Platform Case Study

This case study details the implementation of a new digital learning platform at the University of Bristol, aimed at enhancing digital equity and student accessibility. The University collaborated with Xtravirt to develop a GPU-powered Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) platform, transitioning from a mix of legacy systems to a more streamlined solution. The new platform supports up to 1,000 concurrent users and significantly improves processing times for students, allowing them to complete tasks faster and more efficiently. The initiative is designed to meet the needs of both teaching and research, ensuring operational demands are met while promoting sustainability and accessibility. The case study also discusses the transformation of IT management, including dynamic provisioning and efficient application packaging. Future plans include integrating AI into research and teaching and expanding the VDI platform across the campus. This project exemplifies the University’s commitment to modernizing its IT infrastructure to support innovative educational practices.
