This case study details the implementation of AWS Data Lake capabilities by a leading healthcare institution in Ontario. The hospital, one of the largest community hospitals in the province, faced the challenge of replacing its outdated healthcare infrastructure while maintaining access to historical data. A professional services assessment recommended the adoption of a modern data lake in AWS to provide archival storage and efficient data access. CBTS implemented the solution through a structured four-phase approach, beginning with the establishment of a secure AWS Landing Zone. The process included developing the data lake infrastructure, creating data pipelines, and modeling the data. The final phase involved developing an analytics environment using AWS Redshift and Tableau for user-friendly data analysis. The implementation of the AWS Data Lake significantly improved the hospital's ability to access historical data, enhancing patient care, decision-making, and operational efficiency while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
