End-to-End Traceability for Canadian Aluminum Industry

This case study details the development of an end-to-end traceability solution by the Aluminium Association of Canada (AAC) aimed at certifying the authenticity and sustainability of exported aluminum. The AAC, representing Canada’s primary aluminum industry, sought to create a global traceability ecosystem that provides real-time visibility into the integrity of aluminum production. The document outlines the challenges faced in developing a cloud-based platform that integrates with existing systems, ensuring security and scalability while maintaining compliance with GS1 standards. It describes two pilot projects conducted to evaluate the feasibility and performance of the traceability solution, which included tracking aluminum from its origin to final delivery. The results indicate that the project, supported by government funding, aims to enhance the recognition of Canadian aluminum in continental markets, particularly in the automotive industry, by connecting all primary aluminum smelters and ensuring comprehensive data authentication and traceability.
