This case study documents the migration of Gavilon, a commodity management firm, to Amazon Web Services (AWS). Gavilon, based in Omaha, Nebraska, operates in two segments: Grain & Ingredients and Fertilizer, employing around 2,000 people globally. In August 2019, Gavilon engaged Opti9, an Advanced Tier Consulting Partner, to assess and overhaul its IT organization. The assessment aimed to enhance Gavilon's IT infrastructure and processes. Opti9 initiated the Cloud Journey process, which included creating a customized AWS Landing Zone and developing project plans for a Workspaces proof of concept. The Opti9 Migration Factory was deployed to facilitate the initial migration phases. Furthermore, Opti9 collaborated with AWS Training to perform a Learning Needs Analysis and recommended a training curriculum. The case study highlights the partnership between Gavilon and Opti9, noting the challenges faced during the migration and the ongoing collaboration to optimize the AWS environment.
