This case study details the collaboration between General Motors (GM) and ORBIS Corporation aimed at enhancing the sustainability of packaging used in vehicle manufacturing. GM, a leading vehicle manufacturer, sought to increase the recycled content in its bulk shipping containers as part of its initiative to implement more sustainable practices throughout its supply chain. The study outlines the challenges GM faced, including the need to reduce waste and carbon emissions while transitioning from containers made primarily from virgin materials. ORBIS was tasked with developing a solution that would allow for increased recycled content without compromising the efficiency of GM's supply chain. The resulting solution involved the use of colored placards to maintain container identification while incorporating recycled materials into the bulk containers. The case study concludes with the anticipated outcomes of this initiative, including a significant increase in the amount of recycled content used and a commitment to future sustainability efforts.
