AVEVA Process Simulation Performance Assessment

This technical report presents an evaluation of the AVEVA Process Simulation (APS) platform in the context of the Shell C3-MR LNG plant model. The study, sponsored by the LNG & Cryogenics Centre of Expertise, aims to determine the suitability of APS for process modeling and optimization within Shell's Integrated Gas business. The report outlines the capabilities of APS, including its integration with digital engineering workflows and the Digital Twin ecosystem. A detailed simulation model was constructed to assess various aspects such as model convergence, performance, and design optimization. The evaluation includes the modeling of refrigerant loops and a sensitivity analysis to explore different operational scenarios. The findings suggest that APS can effectively support design and operational needs, enabling faster convergence of complex models and facilitating what-if studies. The report concludes with recommendations for future work and potential applications of APS in the LNG sector.
