This case study details the implementation of Ovarro's LeakNavigator, a fully-managed fixed network leakage service, by Southern Water to enhance leak detection in the water-scarce south-east of England. The initiative aims to achieve a 15% reduction in leakage by 2025 and more than halve leakage by 2050. The deployment involved approximately 1,650 Enigma acoustic loggers and the LeakInsight analytics platform to identify leaks effectively. Following initial training, technicians increased their leak detection rate from 12 to around 130 leaks per month. By July 2024, the project had identified 1,170 leaks and 66 burst mains, achieving an 80% conversion rate for alerts indicating a strong likelihood of leaks. The overall reduction in water loss across all district metered areas (DMAs) amounted to 51 cubic meters, equating to 204Ml/d saved monthly. The case study emphasizes the importance of collaboration between Ovarro and Southern Water in achieving these results and outlines the ongoing commitment to reducing leakage further.
