Comparison of Triamcinolone Acetonide Formulations in Diabetes

This research article presents a post hoc analysis comparing the effects of intraarticular triamcinolone acetonide extended-release (TA-ER) and immediate-release (TA-IR) formulations on glucose levels in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee (OAK) and type 2 diabetes mellitus. The study was conducted with participants monitored using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) to assess blood glucose levels before and after injection. Key findings indicate that the TA-ER group experienced reduced spikes in glucose levels, increased time within the target blood glucose range, and decreased time with glucose levels exceeding 250 mg/dL compared to the TA-IR group. The analysis suggests that TA-ER may be a safer option for managing OAK in patients with diabetes, potentially leading to improved glucose management and reduced risk of long-term complications. The study emphasizes the need for further research with larger sample sizes to validate these findings and explore clinically meaningful endpoints.
