This case study details the implementation of video training at Toyoda Iron Works Co. Ltd. (TOYOTETSU), a Japan-based manufacturer of vehicle frame parts. The company faced challenges in training due to an aging workforce and the influx of migrant workers, which complicated knowledge transfer and increased training times. TOYOTETSU transitioned from traditional handwritten notes to video training using Panopto, which allowed for precise demonstrations of tasks. The case study outlines the benefits of this approach, including a reduction in onboarding time from 40 to 20 hours and a 24% improvement in passing rates for the National Trades Skills Test. The integration of QR codes for just-in-time training on the production floor further enhanced accessibility to training resources. TOYOTETSU plans to expand the use of Panopto for executive communications and internal training, aiming for global adoption of the platform. The study highlights the effectiveness of video training in improving workforce proficiency and knowledge sharing.
