This case study outlines the challenges faced by a pharmaceutical customer in establishing a flexible, multipurpose filling line for biopharmaceutical products. Key factors for success included flexibility, safety, and efficiency in manufacturing. The customer required a single-use solution capable of accommodating various products, adapting to volume variations, and managing small tubing inner diameters essential for filling very small volumes. The solution involved designing customized final fill assemblies featuring molded components that enhance safety and reliability. These include molded double Y-reducer segments for improved filling volume control, molded straight reducers to optimize fluid flow and reduce contamination risks, and micro molding technology to accommodate tubing with inner diameters as small as 1/32 inch. The benefits of the solution included better dose control, higher process reliability, improved accuracy, and reduced contamination risks, alongside rapid change-over times that lead to cost savings and enhanced production flexibility.
