Pre-Feasibility Study for Purwakarta–Padalarang Railway Upgrade

This technical report presents a pre-feasibility analysis regarding the realignment and upgrade of the Purwakarta–Padalarang railway corridor. The objective is to support a minimum operational speed of 100 km/h, addressing a critical bottleneck that currently limits the efficiency of the Jakarta–Bandung economic corridor. The analysis indicates that achieving the desired speed is technically feasible but requires a comprehensive realignment and the construction of a new railway line, rather than merely upgrading the existing infrastructure. The report identifies significant challenges, including extensive tunneling and the construction of major viaducts due to the region's mountainous terrain. A preliminary cost estimate categorizes the project as a major national infrastructure investment, with key risks such as geological uncertainties and potential social opposition. Recommendations include classifying the project as a new-build initiative and initiating a full-scale feasibility study alongside environmental and social impact assessments to ensure community engagement and project viability.
