This report details the implementation and efficacy of MathXL for School at Sherwood Middle School during the 2008/09 academic year. The study involved 81 students in Algebra 1, who were randomly assigned to two groups: one using MathXL and the other using a different online learning program. Both groups received identical instruction, with students using MathXL able to complete homework at school or home, while the other group had more restricted access. The findings indicate significant improvements in test scores for both groups, with the MathXL group achieving a higher posttest score average. The report also includes comparisons of standardized test results for Sherwood Middle School against parish and statewide averages, showing a higher percentage of students scoring Excellent and Good. Additionally, the unexpected benefits of MathXL, such as fostering responsibility and independent study habits among students, are discussed. The school administration concluded that MathXL provided more advantages compared to the other program, including better accessibility and insights into student performance.
