This case study details Tennent's Brewery's implementation of a CO2 collection and recovery system to enhance sustainability in their beer production process. The document outlines the brewery's need for a reliable supply of CO2, which is critical for various production activities, including carbonation and cleaning. Historically, Tennent's relied on purchasing CO2, facing challenges such as environmental impacts and market volatility. The brewery sought a solution that would allow them to autonomously recover CO2 generated during fermentation. With the assistance of Pentair, they adapted their fermentation process to a closed system, enabling the collection of CO2 gas. The case study explains the engineering modifications made, including the installation of specialized valves and gas manifolds, which facilitate the harvesting and purification of CO2. The system has enabled Tennent's Brewery to recover approximately 4,200 tons of CO2 annually, repurposing 95% of it back into their brewing process, thus significantly reducing their reliance on external CO2 sources and minimizing their carbon footprint.
