This case study details the implementation of a web-based software as a service (SaaS) platform for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Million Veteran Program (MVP). The MVP is a voluntary research initiative aimed at building a large medical database to study the impact of genetics, lifestyle, and military exposures on health. To enhance recruitment and engagement, the VA sought to improve its capabilities through an internet-accessible participant web application (PWA). Peraton proposed a solution hosted in Amazon Web Services (AWS) GovCloud, incorporating clinical study functionalities and VA-specific business rules. The system is designed to protect sensitive information by integrating with the VA's single sign-on authentication. The case study outlines the architecture of the SaaS platform, including the use of various AWS services, and discusses the transition from traditional recruitment methods to a digital approach, which aims to facilitate the goal of enrolling one million veterans.
