This case study details the U.S. Army's Total Ammunitions Management Information Systems (TAMIS) migration to the AWS GovCloud environment. The TAMIS system calculates ammunition requirements and prepares forecasts for training and operational loads. The pilot project aimed to demonstrate the feasibility of cloud migration for Army applications and implement an agile development methodology. Peraton developed a repeatable process for assessing cloud suitability, identifying issues such as unsupported software and security vulnerabilities. The recommended solution involved a multi-phased approach to migrate TAMIS to AWS, sustaining the legacy environment while developing a cloud-optimized system. The project utilized a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) for transformation, with planning activities on monthly cycles. The implementation included a DevOps pipeline for continuous integration and delivery, enhancing security, performance, and reducing costs. The successful completion of the proof of concept led to a repeatable pattern for future migrations, achieving significant improvements in operational efficiency and IT spending.
