This case study details the implementation of disaster recovery (DR) automation for a major oil and gas company in India. The client, which is the largest crude oil and natural gas producer in the country, faced challenges in managing its heterogeneous IT infrastructure and aimed to reduce the recovery time objective (RTO) for its applications. The existing RTO was two hours, necessitating manual coordination and heavy reliance on subject matter experts (SMEs) for conducting DR drills. The solution involved the installation of Continuity Patrol software, which automates and orchestrates DR operations, enabling a reduction in RTO by 50%. The case study outlines the steps taken to configure the software, integrate it with existing systems, and automate various tasks related to storage replication and application management. The results achieved include improved visibility into DR health, compliance with ISO 22301 standards, and a streamlined process for executing DR drills with minimal SME dependency.
