This case study details Freddie Mac's initiative to modernize its enterprise architecture using the PlainID Authorization Platform. The objective was to enhance authorization processes across various lines of business, which previously relied on a legacy solution. The modernization aimed to secure over 400 microservices involved in customer loan approvals and control access to more than 500 AWS environments used by numerous developers. The enterprise architect team sought a solution that would lower operational costs and facilitate migration from the Oracle Entitlement Server. Key impacts included improved visibility and consistency in access control, enhanced security for sensitive customer data, and the ability to implement a Policy-Based Access Control framework. The PlainID platform allowed for the decoupling of authorization from application code, enabling faster policy deployment. The migration resulted in centralized management and productivity improvements, with plans for further enhancements in authorization management for external parties.
