This case study outlines the implementation of Plivo’s SMS API by Pocket FM to enhance user authentication for its audio streaming platform. Pocket FM faced challenges with traditional password security, prompting the need for a more reliable solution. The company opted for a one-time password (OTP) system, which users receive via SMS to log in securely. The case study details the integration process, which was completed in approximately one and a half days, and highlights the regulatory compliance challenges encountered in India. Following the implementation, Pocket FM reported an increase in login success rates from 76% to 83%. The case study also discusses the ease of integration with Plivo’s API and the quality of support received during and after the rollout. Additionally, the CTO of Pocket FM, Prateek Dixit, expresses interest in exploring further uses of the SMS API for marketing reengagement strategies to retain users on the platform.
