This case study details how a telecommunications firm faced challenges with CPU utilization peaking at 100% during critical billing jobs, impacting job performance and completion within the daily batch window. The firm sought a solution to reduce software costs linked to increasing MSU utilization without budgeting for an upgrade. They utilized a free Precisley SMF analysis to project savings in MIPS, MSUs, and MLC costs with Syncsort’s ZPSaver solution. The analysis was tailored to their needs, focusing on CPU utilization and elapsed time during peak periods. Results showed an average savings of 72.4% in CPU time and an 11% reduction in elapsed time. Following the installation of Syncsort ZPSaver, the firm experienced immediate improvements in CPU time and job completion rates, allowing them to avoid an impending processor upgrade and reduce software costs. This case study illustrates the operational efficiencies gained through the implementation of Syncsort ZPSaver.
