This case study details the management of a phase III registrational trial in patients with relapsed, refractory multiple myeloma, focusing on the enrollment of 780 patients across 155 sites in 20 countries. The study faced challenges due to the assignment of clinical research associates (CRAs) with limited experience in multiple myeloma, leading to operational inefficiencies and delays in study start-up. Precision for Medicine was selected to rescue the trial, emphasizing the need for seasoned CRAs to enhance site engagement and communication. Solutions included prioritizing top-performing sites, implementing detailed patient enrollment plans, and fostering competition through initiatives such as enrollment news flashes and investigator-led caucuses. As a result of these strategies, the enrollment goal was achieved one month ahead of schedule, demonstrating the effectiveness of targeted management in clinical trials.
