This case study details how a fabless chipmaker successfully implemented proteanTecs AVS Pro™ to achieve a significant reduction in power consumption and improve performance in their 5nm networking chips designed for datacenters. The integration of AVS Pro allowed the customer to lower the voltage from 650 mV to an average of 608 mV, resulting in a 12.5% dynamic power reduction. This optimization not only positioned the chipmaker as a low-power alternative to traditional networking devices but also enabled hyperscale cloud vendors to save over $5 million annually on energy costs. Additionally, the solution facilitated an increase in performance by more than 11% due to a higher utilization rate per system. The AVS Pro technology employs advanced Adaptive Voltage Scaling to monitor and adjust voltage guard-bands in real-time, ensuring operational safety while maximizing power efficiency. The case study outlines the challenges faced by the customer in managing excessive voltage guard-bands and how AVS Pro effectively addressed these issues.
