This case study details the collaboration between Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) and Virgin Atlantic to implement specialist fire solutions at the airline's hangar located at Heathrow Airport. The project was initiated due to the identification of a chemical in the foam concentrate used in fire suppression systems, which is set to be banned by the Environment Agency in 2025. Engineers from Trinity, a division of PTSG Fire Solutions Ltd, were tasked with replacing the contaminated foam and bladder tanks. The process involved scaffolding and roof works to facilitate access for the removal of valves, followed by draining the first tank and incinerating the contaminated materials. After removing the old bladders, new linings were installed in both tanks. The project concluded with a full operational test of the foam monitors to ensure their functionality, thereby enhancing safety measures at the hangar without disrupting Virgin Atlantic's operations.
