This case study outlines the implementation of the Supports Intensity Scale® Needs Assessments (SIS-A) for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) by the Vermont Department of Disabilities, Aging, and Independent Living (DAIL) in partnership with Public Consulting Group (PCG). The project was initiated in response to the challenges faced prior to 2021, where the lack of standardized assessments led to gaps in services for individuals with IDD. The case study details the systematic approach taken by PCG, including the establishment of an expert leadership team, a deliberate operational staffing plan, and an effective assessment process. It emphasizes the importance of stakeholder engagement in ensuring buy-in from individuals and provider groups. The study also documents the successful execution of over 2,000 assessments since the program's launch, highlighting the transition to the SIS-A 2nd Edition and the ongoing support provided to DAIL in community education about the assessment process.
