Performance Optimization for Darkside Database

This case study details the collaboration between District 4 Labs and Pureinsights to enhance the performance of the Darkside database, which is a repository of compromised records and other intelligence data. The document outlines the challenges faced by District 4 Labs, including slow search index response times and the need for a cost-effective solution to manage a rapidly growing database. Pureinsights conducted an assessment of the existing search application architecture, which utilized the OpenSearch search engine on AWS infrastructure. Through iterative performance tuning and the application of sharding techniques, significant improvements were achieved. The average query response time improved from 15 seconds to sub-second levels, and maximum response times were reduced from 85 seconds to 15 seconds. The optimized architecture not only eliminated query errors but also reduced infrastructure costs, providing a scalable solution for future growth. This case study serves as a practical example of effective performance optimization in the field of open-source intelligence.
