This report is a technical analysis of the NZX50 March 2024 reporters concerning their compliance with the Aotearoa New Zealand Climate Standards (NZ CS). It evaluates the financial disclosures related to climate change and how these companies are addressing new climate-related disclosure requirements. The report highlights the progress made by NZX50 companies in preparing mandatory climate-related disclosures (CRD) and assesses the integration of climate-related risks into financial statements. Key findings indicate an increase in the number of businesses discussing climate-related risks, with 8 out of 141 reporters mentioning these risks in their financial statements. The report also notes that while some companies have begun to quantify the impacts of climate change, many still do not provide explicit adjustments in their financial reporting. Furthermore, the report discusses the implications of the International Accounting Standards Board's proposed examples for climate-related financial reporting and the importance of linking climate disclosures with financial statements to provide material information for stakeholders.
