This case study outlines the collaborative initiative led by QTS Data Centers in partnership with Maricopa Community Colleges to establish a Data Center Operations Certificate Program aimed at addressing the skills shortage in the data center industry. The program was developed in response to the growing demand for skilled technicians due to the rapid expansion of data centers and the retirement of the existing workforce. The initiative involves multiple local data center operators and aims to create a sustainable workforce development program. It includes industry-aligned courses, a speaker series, data center tours, and an internship program to enhance students' understanding and interest in data center careers. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions and incorporates professional readiness skills to support their transition into the workforce. The program is expected to produce its first cohort of graduates in Fall 2025, contributing to the local economy and addressing critical employment needs in the data center sector.
