ETL Processes and Data Migration Testing for Utilities

This case study outlines the ETL processes and data migration testing conducted for a large utility organization based in the American Midwest. The objective was to ensure zero downtime during the migration of legal documentation management systems for wind farms. The project involved testing data from two separate databases, comprising around 400,000 legal documents. Qualitest was engaged to lead the testing efforts after initial challenges arose due to a lack of management. The testing solutions recommended included system integration tests, manual performance tests, user acceptance tests, regression testing, ETL testing, and production implementation testing. The testing process was executed in two stages, with the first execution revealing major issues that were addressed before a successful second execution. The entire ETL process was completed within 24 hours during the 'Go Live' phase, with zero defects encountered, ensuring minimal business disruption and accurate time estimates for system availability.
