This case study details the collaboration between the University of Miami Health System (UHealth) and Qventus to enhance surgical capacity and operational efficiency. UHealth faced challenges in unlocking operating room (OR) access despite high utilization rates, primarily due to reliance on manual scheduling processes and surgeon behavior regarding block time usage. The partnership aimed to automate OR scheduling, provide transparency in scheduling for surgeons and leadership, and eliminate manual reporting. Key features of the Qventus Surgical Growth Solution included TimeFinder, Block Release, and Available Time Outreach (ATO), which utilized AI and machine learning to optimize OR scheduling and increase utilization. The implementation resulted in significant improvements, including a 4.6% year-over-year increase in additional case hours and a 35% improvement in the timely release of OR hours. The case study illustrates the effectiveness of technology in transforming surgical operations and driving strategic growth in healthcare settings.
