Shopfloor Data Integration for Automotive Manufacturing

This case study details a solution developed for a major automotive manufacturer undergoing significant transformation in its manufacturing facilities. The customer faced challenges in integrating machine data with Amazon S3-based data lakes, relying on MQTT and OPC UA protocols for data transmission. The need for a lightweight, vendor-agnostic solution capable of processing high volumes of messages was critical. Rackspace Technology created the Shopfloor Data Integration (SDI) solution, which seamlessly integrates with AWS, allowing efficient data handling and processing. Built in Golang, the solution utilizes AWS SDK for Go and incorporates AWS IAM Roles Anywhere for secure access. The implementation has resulted in processing over 30GB of data daily, enhancing the customer’s capabilities in quality control, production optimization, and predictive maintenance. The centralized data lake now supports near real-time data ingestion, significantly improving operational agility and reducing costs through automation and simplified maintenance.
