Digitalized End-To-End Process for Environmental Monitoring

This technical report outlines the integration of the MODA-EM® Module with the Growth Direct® System to create a fully automated end-to-end (E2E) process for environmental monitoring (EM) in pharmaceutical manufacturing. The report details the challenges faced in traditional EM processes, including labor-intensive manual sampling and analysis, which can lead to errors and delays. It highlights the need for digital solutions, particularly in the cell and gene therapy (CGT) sector, where rapid testing is crucial. The integration aimed to optimize EM across Lonza's manufacturing sites by automating data collection and microbial testing. The report explains how the new system improves accuracy, reduces time-to-detection from up to 8 days to under 72 hours, and enhances compliance with regulatory standards. It also discusses the collaborative effort required for the integration and the benefits of a paperless system that minimizes human error and streamlines workflows, ultimately facilitating faster delivery of critical medicines to patients.
