Building a Culture of Safety in Schools

This document is a case study detailing how Westerville City Schools prioritize safety and student wellbeing through various initiatives and technologies. The Westerville City School District, which serves nearly 15,000 students across 26 schools, faces challenges in compliance with Ohio law regarding Behavioral Threat Assessment (BTA) teams. The district has established BTA teams in every school and implemented policies to foster a culture of safety. Key initiatives include investing in access control systems to manage building security and utilizing Raptor technologies to streamline compliance training and emergency management. The case study outlines how these measures have improved accountability, facilitated emergency coordination, and embedded a culture of safety within the district. The integration of Raptor VisitorSafe and Emergency Management has enhanced the district's response to incidents and improved the overall safety culture, making safety a shared responsibility among staff members.
