LITTLE FALCON Rapid Whole Genome Sequencing Program

This document is a technical report detailing the LITTLE FALCON program, a citywide rapid whole genome sequencing (rWGS) initiative implemented in Dubai's neonatal and pediatric intensive care units. The program aimed to enhance diagnostic capabilities for critically ill patients, with a focus on those from diverse Middle Eastern and Asian backgrounds. A total of 100 patients underwent trio rWGS, achieving a mean turnaround time of 3.4 days and an overall diagnostic yield of 53%. The report outlines the significant clinical implications of rWGS, including its ability to inform time-sensitive therapeutic and prognostic decisions, which were crucial during critical care. The findings indicate that rWGS not only shortened diagnostic timelines compared to traditional genetic testing but also increased the likelihood of clinical management changes. The report emphasizes the feasibility and clinical utility of integrating rWGS into routine care within a large healthcare system, addressing existing inequities in access to genomic-based care in the region.
