This case study details the challenges faced by Grid United, a developer of utility-scale electric transmission projects, as it rapidly expanded its workforce from approximately 35-40 employees to nearly 90. The accounting team encountered difficulties due to a lack of defined monthly close workflows, increased reconciliation transaction volume, and limited transparency into general ledger balances. To address these issues, the team implemented BlackLine's Task Manager and Account Reconciliation modules. The implementation, completed in 30 days, significantly improved the monthly close process, reducing the close cycle from 15 days to 6 days and cash reconciliations from a full day to less than 30 minutes. The case study highlights the positive impact of these changes on organizational accountability, communication, and the onboarding process for junior accounting staff, as well as the establishment of clear expectations and deadlines across the department. Overall, the implementation of BlackLine has positioned Grid United for continued growth and efficiency in its accounting practices.
