This case study details the implementation of Plex’s Manufacturing Execution System (MES) at Newman Technology, Inc., a North American automotive parts supplier. The objective was to modernize their inventory management processes, which had relied on outdated manual methods involving spreadsheets and paper purchase orders. The transition to Plex MES, initiated in 2006, aimed to enhance production accuracy and accountability while streamlining communications with suppliers. The phased implementation over 18 months led to significant improvements, including a 98% inventory accuracy rate and a 25% reduction in inventory costs. The automated system allowed for real-time visibility of the production lifecycle, facilitating better scheduling and coordination across multiple facilities. As a result, physical inventories that previously took days to complete were reduced to just four to six hours. The case study highlights how Plex MES has transformed Newman Technology’s operations, enabling them to adapt to changing demands and improve overall efficiency.
