Equine Floor Scale Implementation at MSSPA

This case study discusses the implementation of the RoughDeck EQ equine floor scale at the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals (MSSPA). The MSSPA, a nonprofit organization dedicated to rehabilitating abused and neglected horses, previously relied on a weight tape for monitoring the health of these animals. This method proved to be inaccurate and inadequate for veterinary care, prompting the organization to seek a more effective solution. Thanks to a generous donation from Maine Scale, the MSSPA acquired the equine floor scale, which allows for precise weight measurements critical for developing individualized re-feeding programs for malnourished horses. The case study outlines how the accurate weight tracking has improved the rehabilitation process, enabling veterinary staff to prescribe appropriate feed and medication dosages, and ensuring the safety of both horses and staff. The scale's digital readout captures even minor weight changes, enhancing the overall health monitoring system for rescued horses.
