This case study outlines the network upgrade undertaken by Burlington County, New Jersey, to address significant connectivity challenges faced by its public buildings. The county, which spans 827 square miles and serves a population of over 446,000, was dealing with outdated infrastructure, unreliable Wi-Fi, and unresponsive product support. The IT department identified the need for a more stable and efficient network, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic when remote work increased demand for reliable public Wi-Fi. Partnering with Northpoint Solutions and RUCKUS Networks, the county proposed an upgrade to Wi-Fi 6 technology, which promised enhanced speed and reliability. The first phase involved transitioning data to the cloud and strategically placing access points based on a Wi-Fi heatmap. The deployment was carefully planned to ensure continuous operation of emergency services. The upgrade included the installation of RUCKUS indoor access points and ICX switches, which improved network performance and management capabilities, significantly reducing outage reports and enhancing user experience.
