This technical report presents VGPrio, a method designed to optimize HTTP/3 resource prioritization based on visual metrics, specifically the SpeedIndex. The report outlines the challenges associated with setting optimal resource priorities for web pages, which are typically managed by browsers using generalized strategies that may not perform well in all scenarios. VGPrio employs a Bayesian optimization approach to learn prioritization strategies that enhance human-perceivable performance metrics. The method is evaluated on a public corpus of websites, demonstrating improvements in SpeedIndex by up to 50% compared to default strategies. The report discusses the design of VGPrio, including its ability to adapt to various web pages and network configurations. It also highlights the significance of visually guided metrics in web performance evaluation and the importance of tailoring resource prioritization to improve user experience. The findings indicate that VGPrio can effectively address the limitations of existing prioritization strategies and offers a promising solution for enhancing web performance.
