This technical report details Ameren Missouri's implementation of the IntelliRupter PulseCloser Fault Interrupter as part of its Smart Energy Plan aimed at enhancing grid reliability and resilience. The utility serves approximately 1.2 million customers across a vast area, and the need for improved infrastructure became evident after significant outages following Hurricane Ike in 2008. The report outlines how Ameren Missouri strategically deployed over 500 IntelliRupter devices to modernize its distribution system. The deployment led to a reduction in the number of customers per segment from 1,500 to 400, significantly improving reliability. The report also discusses the advanced restoration capabilities of the IntelliRupter and its integration with the IntelliTeam SG Automatic Restoration System, which optimizes power rerouting during outages. As a result of these efforts, Ameren Missouri achieved a 32% improvement in the System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) within five years, prompting plans for additional installations to further enhance grid performance.
