This report presents the findings of the SME Climate Finance Stocktake, which examines the challenges and opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in accessing finance for sustainability initiatives. It highlights that while the ambition for sustainability among SMEs is increasing, access to necessary capital is lagging, particularly for smaller firms. The research indicates that medium-sized enterprises, especially in manufacturing and transport, are more successful in securing green finance compared to their smaller counterparts. The report outlines the importance of digital tools and AI in improving reporting and access to finance, emphasizing that fragmented reporting remains a significant barrier. It proposes five actionable steps to enhance data standardization and promote the adoption of digital solutions to unlock green finance for a broader range of SMEs. The OECD's definition of green finance is included, underscoring its role in supporting long-term economic, social, and environmental objectives.
