This case study details the collaboration between UCSF and Sapio Sciences to enhance the efficiency of the UC500 cancer gene profiling assay using the Sapio LIMS platform. The project aimed to address significant challenges faced by the UCSF Clinical Cancer Genomics Laboratory (CCGL), including disparate data sources and manual data entry processes that hindered the searchability and reporting of test results. The team developed workflows to automate data entry and synchronize platforms, ultimately improving the speed and efficiency of the assay. Key technical solutions included transforming unstructured data into a structured format, utilizing a python script for data conversion, and establishing a bi-directional connection between Sapio and UCSF's APeX system through the HL7 engine. The successful implementation of these solutions has strengthened the partnership between UCSF and Sapio, with plans for future enhancements to further improve cancer care delivery.
