Modernizing Staff Scheduling in Health Services

This case study outlines the modernization of staff scheduling practices within a Northeast State Health and Human Services Department, which involved transitioning from paper-based systems to a unified electronic scheduling platform across 11 facilities. The challenge was significant due to the complexity of thousands of employees, multiple unions, and varying departmental processes. The department partnered with ScheduleSource and HealthNET Consulting to implement the TeamWork software, which facilitated a more efficient and transparent scheduling system. HealthNET consultants engaged with facility leadership and staff to document existing workflows and translate them into process maps for software configuration. The implementation included extensive training and support, leading to improved visibility into staffing needs, equitable overtime management, and real-time reporting capabilities.
