This research article examines the effectiveness of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) in mitigating the impacts of natural disasters. NBS are approaches that utilize natural processes to address environmental challenges, particularly in the context of climate change and disaster management. The article outlines the historical context of NBS and their growing prominence since the early 2000s, supported by organizations such as the World Bank. It discusses the benefits of NBS, including their role in enhancing ecosystem resilience and providing cost-effective alternatives to traditional engineering solutions. However, the article also highlights significant challenges, such as funding disparities, the risk of 'greenwashing', and the limitations of NBS in extreme weather conditions. Specific practices, such as post-fire forest management and erosion control, are detailed as examples of NBS applications. The article emphasizes the need for collaboration among stakeholders and the importance of context-specific strategies to maximize the effectiveness of NBS in disaster risk reduction.
