Mozal Aluminium Guardian Technology Implementation

This technical report outlines the implementation of Guardian technology at Mozal Aluminium, a major aluminium smelter with continuous operations. The facility, producing approximately 575,000 tonnes annually, faces significant vehicle interaction risks due to the transport of molten metal and other products. To enhance its safety culture and mitigate these risks, Mozal deployed Guardian technology to detect fatigue and distraction in real time. The report details how the system was initially implemented in 2019 and expanded to employee buses in 2023, with plans for installation across over 50 internal vehicles by 2024. The results indicate a 93% reduction in microsleep events and improvements in safety culture through real-time alerts. Additionally, the report highlights the upskilling of Mozal technicians to support ongoing deployment and maintenance, demonstrating a commitment to rigorous risk management and employee safety.
