Verizon Data Privacy Improvement Initiative

This document is a technical report detailing the collaboration between Verizon and PwC to enhance Verizon's data privacy capabilities. The report outlines the challenges faced prior to the engagement, where compliance with privacy regulations was managed manually across multiple data sources. The objective was to create a knowledge graph serving as a unified source of privacy metadata, which includes information about data classified as private. Key components of the data privacy landscape were identified and modeled, addressing various privacy concerns such as legal rights of data subjects, agreements with third parties, and data processing details. The report describes the development of an extensive taxonomy to maintain simplicity in the core model while allowing for key distinctions. Additionally, it discusses the creation of configurable queries for data validation. The outcome is a consolidated view of data that significantly enhances the management of application compliance with privacy policies and regulations.
