This case study details the implementation of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions at Shaganappi Point Golf Course in Calgary, focusing on the use of LoRaWAN technology to monitor golf cart locations and track pace of play. The City of Calgary, through its municipal LoRaWAN network, aims to enhance the golfing experience by providing real-time insights into the time taken to complete rounds and identifying anomalies in course pace. The initiative is part of the City Network of Things (CNoT) strategy, which supports various departments in deploying cost-effective IoT solutions. The study outlines the challenges faced in tracking pace of play and the solutions developed, including the installation of sensors in golf carts that communicate data wirelessly to a centralized system. The results indicate improved customer experience and operational efficiency, with potential benefits for revenue maximization and service improvements at municipal golf facilities.
