This case study outlines the collaboration between Elvexys, a Swiss technology company, and Oiken, a utility provider, to enhance grid monitoring through the deployment of a smart solution utilizing LoRa technology. The primary objective was to improve the speed at which power outages are detected and resolved within Oiken's extensive electrical grid, which serves over 90,000 residents across 24 municipalities. The study details how Elvexys developed the LEM-301, an innovative wireless sensor IoT solution that allows for real-time monitoring of voltage levels and electric current flow in substations. By integrating this technology, Oiken has significantly reduced the time required to locate faults during outages from several hours to just 30 minutes.
