This technical report discusses the performance of connectorized fiber optic patch cords in relation to Insertion Loss (IL) and Return Loss (RL) during installation and use. It outlines the challenges faced in achieving expected performance levels, which can be influenced by installation practices and the intermateability of connectors from different manufacturers. The report details the Random Mating method, which involves cross-mating patch cords without the use of Master patch cords, to provide a realistic estimate of optical loss in the field. It references standards such as Telcordia GR-326-CORE and IEC 61753-1, which set performance criteria for fiber optic products. The report also presents two testing methods for measuring optical losses during Random Mating, emphasizing the importance of field testing to ensure compliance with industry standards. The findings indicate that SENKO's premium connectors demonstrate superior performance in Random Mating tests compared to competitors, meeting or exceeding the specified standards.
