This article presents a case study of Seyfarth Shaw's initiative, known as 'SEYence Fair,' aimed at fostering innovation within the law firm. The firm organized a competition among its employees to solicit innovative ideas, resulting in 59 project submissions from a total of 84 participants. The initiative was inspired by the concept of science fairs and aimed to encourage creative problem-solving related to challenges faced by the firm and its clients. Participants were tasked with developing detailed proposals, including project feasibility and required resources. The article details various project ideas, including an AI-assisted pre-bill review tool and a scraping tool for data aggregation. The competition not only focused on the end products but also emphasized the importance of cultivating a collaborative culture that encourages innovative thinking. The firm’s approach reflects a broader trend among law firms to utilize internal competitions to drive innovation and improve service delivery.
