This technical report details the methodology for alcohol determination in sanitizing ethanol utilizing the Nexis GC-2060 gas chromatograph equipped with a newly developed flame ionization detector (FID). The report outlines the challenges associated with gas chromatography of aqueous samples, specifically the instability in sample vaporization and the impact on repeatability. It describes the use of an Xtra Life Microsyringe and a special liner designed for aqueous solutions to enhance analysis stability. The report includes a comprehensive description of the sample preparation process, where a standard solution is created and diluted for analysis. Instrument configuration and analysis conditions are specified, including the use of a capillary column and various temperature settings. Results from the analysis of a commercially available sanitizing gel are presented, confirming compliance with the system suitability requirements of USP <611> Method IIb. The findings demonstrate the effectiveness of the Nexis GC-2060 in achieving repeatable and reliable results for alcohol concentration in aqueous solutions.
